Murray Vs. Clearwater

Summary

Firefighter/Paramedic Murray was the lead paramedic on an Advanced Life Support unit that did not immediately respond to a person who was a known abuser of the 911 system, instead electing to wait for the police to secure the scene and decide if EMS was needed.

After receiving counseling for his actions, Murray was subsequently fired by Clearwater Fire Chief Jamie Geer when past events of the same magnitude resulted in no such terminations.

Verdict

The City of Clearwater was ordered to reinstate Murray and reimburse him back pay and benefits for the period he was off (over a year).

Total cost to Tax Payer: $120,168.25
